VISIT OF GERMAN STUDENTS DELEGATION
Twenty-one delegates from Germany Grundshule Tumringen, Lörrach and Grund – Und Hauptschule, Öehningen, Germany visited Mayo College Ajmer under the Exchange Programme which started way back in 2008.
Their itinerary was meticulously planned, keeping in mind the time at hand and the fact that they do not miss out on anything.
The children from Germany amazed at the beauteous Main Building, the intriguing campus flaunting the lush fields, the sturdy but archaic structures of the sundry boarding houses, the green milieu and of course the well-mannered and courteous Mayoites!
The delegates were taken to places of historical and cultural importance in and around Ajmer. They particularly admired the Jain Temple, Nareli for its awe-inspiring structures and the chastity of the followers of Jainism.
"Swad-Ri-Dhani" certainly was like bringing our cultural ethos back to life. The delegates enjoyed the varied dance forms, the vibrant surroundings, the embroidered 'lehangas' and the Puppet Show in particular.
The Ananta Resort at Pushkar had been booked for an evening and indeed they had a wonderful time watching the Rajasthani Dances against the backdrop of the Aravali Ranges bringing to life the sleepy town of Pushkar!
The boys of Mayo College and the Girls from M.C.G.S. put up a show each to formally welcome the Germans and also to give them an insight to the talent that was honed here. The Germans being more reposed and convivial did find the students of Mayo more focused and were full of praise at the way their childhood was being moulded.
The children from the two countries engaged in friendly matches of Football and Basketball. The matches added a lot of colour to the surrounding and the spectators had a wonderful time cheering for the teams!
The group spent the morning merry- making. They lazed in the azure waters of the swimming pool and tried their hand at shooting or riding on the majestic horses that we breed here at Mayo. Their stay had all the elements one needs to have a memorable holiday. And we’re sure the recollections that they carried would come to them as fond flashbacks. The protocol dinners at the two schools saw the Germans socializing with the Indian counterparts: absorbing and saving every minute they spent here to be pondered upon at leisure.
Their journey thenceforth was to the mystical destinations of India- Agra, Jaipur, Ranthambore and Delhi, where they witnessed the traditional extravaganza that our country is so very proud of. From the Taj Mahal, the Lotus Temple, the Ranthambore Fort, the Amer Fort, the majestic tiger on the prowl to the picking up of the souvenirs from the vibrant canopies at Ranthambore or the ‘bazaars’ of Agra and Delhi. The Germans certainly had a delightful time.
Distance and Nationality mean nothing when you make friends – because if the world is one family then aren’t we all actually descendants of a common ancestor? Yes, the very essence of the Exchange Programme is to bring the countries closer, to know people from the other side, to gain from them, to build fond memories to savour and have friendships that transcend the boundaries of space and time. All of us involved here in this Exchange Programme are assuredly moving towards this utopian dream!
